Who would win in a one mile street race between a 1974 Porsche 911 and a 1969 cheve. comaro fs?

But it depends on the type of race and the level of modification on these two cars (who street races a 30 year old car in stock trim, anyway?). I will assume both cars are in good condition with no ineptly done mods and the Camaro is a V8 model.





If it's the classic stoplight race, the only way the Porsche has a fighting chance is if it's packing some sort of late model engine swap. Straight line speed is what Camaros do best. The Porsches of the day were not built for crazy amounts of horsepower.





If that one mile was along, say, the Pacific Coast Highway, the Porsche is going to have the upper hand. Porsches are built for handling. However, it would need a good driver - both cars have downright scary handling compared to more recent vehicles, but the Porsche is especially likely to punish bad drivers.|||The fastest car would win...|||PORSCHE RULES.EVEN IF CAMARO HAS SOME MORE HP IT`S WAY HEAVIER THAN PORSCHE.

One was bred on the Autobahn...the other bred for 55 to 75 MPH limit.





You want a Cessna or an F-16?|||It all depends. In a straight line if the camaro is putting out more HP then it would win, but the Porsche would accelerate faster. If the Porsche has more HP the Porsche would win.


Generally, Porsches are about handling not necessarily speed so on anything with curves the Porsche would win regardless of HP.

The Porsche is in a different class. Much faster than a Mustang or Camaro.


The Top Speed difference is probably more than 20mph.|||You don't specify which 1974 911 - options would range from the US version 911S and Carrera, or the RoW versions of 911S and the Carrera 3.0. For the Camaro, there are also a few versions, none of which are called an FS.





While the non-US 3.0 Carrera is a car capable of massive performance... it is a rare and expensive car, and probably not the car you are talking about. The basic 911S that was sold in the US in 1974 is a fun car, but it is not especially fast.





Compared with most any version of the early Camaros, it would be lacking in power. On a race track, and in the hands of a skilled driver, the Porsche would enjoy a solid advantage in handling and be capable of better exit speeds, and have a massive advantage in braking... but the Camaro would have the power advantage.





Around a race track, with equal driver, the Porsche should enjoy the advantage (with the more powerful version enjoying an even bigger advantage). In a drag race though, the Camaro would be much (MUCH MUCH MUCH) better suited.
